Basement waterproofing and crawl space repair in Birmingham, AL

Birmingham is served by our friendly specialists from our Leeds location.

wet basement walls in Birmingham, AL

Moisture has collected on the basement walls of this Alabama home.

As the largest city in the state, Birmingham, AL has thousands of homeowners whose basements are wet and unappealing. This is made worse by the city's climate, which features abundant rainfall and severe thunderstorms during many parts of the year. Fortunately, AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists has over 15 years of experience handling basement and crawl space water issues for local homeowners just like you!

Most unfinished basements aren't known for being the most attractive or exciting part of a home, but that doesn't mean they should be left to rot and decay. Water in your basement, which can enter anywhere from a leaky basement wall or window to a failed washer heater, will eventually grow mold and create health hazards for the whole home. If you've noticed any of these signs in your basement, it's time to call in a professional:

  • Wet or damp basement floor or standing water
  • Leaking or damp basement walls or windows
  • Crystalline deposits on concrete surfaces
  • Musty odors, condensation, and humidity
  • Sump pump issues

AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists has a wide variety of products we can use to keep your basement dry. From high-volume sump pumps to French drains and efficient dehumidifiers, we have all of the components necessary for a successful waterproofing system. After we install these products in your basement, you'll have a more valuable home and more space to safely store your possessions, do your laundry, or however else you wish to use your below-the-home space!

Additionally, we offer crawl space repair and encapsulation services that will also keep water and moisture away from your home. Because so many crawl spaces are left almost entirely open to the outside, moisture and mold growth are extremely common – which can be detrimental to the structural integrity of your entire home. Our crawl space vapor barrier, sump pump, dehumidifier, and more will prevent harm from coming to your home.

Solutions for foundation repair and concrete lifting

foundation wall cracks in Birmingham, AL

Wall cracks can appear once a home's foundation has started to shift or settle.

Have you noticed cracks along exterior or interior walls and floors, bowing walls, uneven flooring, or even a tilting chimney around your home? These signs usually point to foundation problems, which can become serious if not taken care of. AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists employs foundation specialists who can quickly diagnose the issue and offer the best solution for your foundation repair needs.

Different symptoms may mean different problems for your home, and we can discover the root of any foundation problem. For example, stair-step cracking along exterior bricks usually means foundation settlement, while bulging cracks in floors point to foundation heave. There are also a wide variety of products designed for each of these problems. Push or helical piers can resolve foundation settlement, while wall anchors and braces fix bowing walls. AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists uses the best products designed by the experts at Foundation Supportworks on every job.

We can also help with concrete lifting and leveling needs around your property. If you have:

  • A cracked driveway
  • An uneven patio
  • A sinking sidewalk
  • A sunken pool deck

Our professionals are more than ready to use the PolyLevel method to set these problems straight. PolyLevel uses a lightweight polyurethane foam that quickly lifts concrete back to level after it is injected into the ground. In just 15 minutes after application, most concrete slabs are ready for normal use. If your foundation or concrete is making life difficult for you, schedule a free quote with AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists today!

Job Stories From Birmingham, AL
Wall Anchors Prevent Future Cracking in Birmingham Home

Cracking in your foundation could be alarming, and needs to be addressed very quickly. For Eunjoo K. it was a big problem.  After being referred by his close friend to Alabama Foundation Specialists, Eunjoo spoke with foundation specialist Rick McVey. Rick quickly suggested our state of the art Wall Anchors.

Wall Anchors are embedded into the soil away from the foundation wall then connected to steel wall plates with anchoring rods. A benefit of this system is the ability to tighten the wall anchor during dry periods which prevents anymore cracking from happening.

Upon completion of the project, Eunjoo can be at ease knowing that the cracks in his foundation are now fixed. His newly installed wall anchors can now weather any storm.

CleanSpace & SaniDry Rid Home of Mold and Mildew

Mold and mildew growth can be unseen and very unhealthy. For Monica C. it was an ongoing problem with her home’s crawl space. After being referred by a home inspector to AFS, Monica spoke with Jim Adams, crawl space expert about her ongoing problem. Jim quickly suggested our Cleanspace Liner and our SaniDry CX.

CleanSpace is made of 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement, the liner is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth on or under the CleanSpace liner. To ensure no mold and mildew, Jim also suggested our Energy Star Rated SaniDry CX system. This system pumps out up to 109 pints of water a day.

After Monica C. had the company install the CleanSpace liner and SaniDry CX system in her crawl space, she has had nothing but a dry, safe, and healthy crawlspace for years to come!
