AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists Partners with Habitat for Humanity
This year, the AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists (AFS) team partnered with Habitat for Humanity. As part of the companywide Build Together 2024 initiative, employees assisted in home builds for members of the local communities.
AFS’s parent company, Groundworks, donated $100,000 Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country to support long-term stability through safe and affordable housing. Part of the Goodworks by Groundworks program, this partnership gives 5,000 employees the chance to volunteer in 63 communities throughout the year.
Auburn
On April 26, the Auburn team participated in a build with the Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity to construct a home. The team installed siding on the outside of a home in Columbus.
Five team members spent the day working at the site and were extremely grateful for the chance to improve the community they serve.
Chattanooga
AFS employees in Chattanooga volunteered their time on May 17 at a brand-new home. Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Chattanooga Area hosted nine AFS volunteers that assisted in constructing and raising walls at the very rainy build site. This was AFS’s second consecutive year volunteering with HFH of Greater Chattanooga Area.
“The AFS team came together in the Alton Park neighborhood to put up the walls for a family’s future home. Their heavy lifting is helping create hope, resilience, and a foundation for a brighter future.” – Ryan Weseloh, Director of Development
Huntsville
On the same day as Chattanooga’s build, AFS team members in Huntsville partnered with Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley. Eight AFS employees worked at a home in Huntsville installing doors and windows, painting, assisting with landscaping, and more. The partnership was featured on WAFF (NBC) Huntsville.
“[AFS] always comes ready to do whatever is asked of them. I can divide them up and conquer many tasks. The group did what we call “punch list” items on a house that will soon be dedicated to a new family who is anxious to move in. We couldn’t do our mission without groups like [AFS].” – Jeff Whitehead, Construction Program Coordinator
Knoxville
Habitat for Humanity Knoxville had seven AFS employees at their build site on April 5. Volunteers helped set roof trusses placed plywood on the deck. Their efforts were featured on Knox News.
“The AFS Groundworks team came out in full force! Not only did they show up early, but they were smiling and ready to jump in and work. Having their team out allowed Knoxville Habitat to save on construction labor, which allows more funds to be used to help build more homes for families in need in our community. The team worked well together, and we hope they will join us again!” – Trinity Edgar-Mummey, Director of Donor & Volunteer Engagement
Nashville
In Nashville, AFS volunteers partnered with Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity. Eight employees spent the day at a neighborhood in Murfreesboro that will comprise of all Habitat for Humanity constructed homes.
AFS employees did numerous jobs at the home for future homeowner Brittany. Brittany is grateful to be in the home ownership program, since losing her job has made housing stressful the last few years. Brittany hopes her new home will give her the peace and tranquility she has been missing.
