AFS Sponsors The Max Volleyball Tournament Benefiting Feeding the Gulf Coast

All it takes is just one person to change the world. Imagine the impact we could all make together! This is the legacy Maxine Connelly left behind, honored each year with a special fundraising event and celebration.

The Mobile, AL, office of AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists was proud to be a sponsor of The Max Volleyball Tournament. The third annual event was held on May 19, 2024, at Juana’s Pagodas and Sailors’ Grill in Navarre Beach, FL. Along with thrilling games, the tournament also featured delicious food and drinks, raffles, and live music, all for a good cause.

A Shining Star with a Dream

Maxine Connelly of Pensacola, FL, lived her life by the Golden Rule, never thinking twice about lending a helping hand to someone in need. When she passed away at the age of 20, her family wanted to do whatever they could to honor her legacy.

They formed The Max Volleyball Tournament, combining Maxine’s love of volleyball and passion for giving back to the community. The event raises awareness and funds for the hungry, with proceeds benefitting Feeding the Gulf Coast.

Helping Feed the Hungry

One out of every six people in the Central Gulf Coast region requires food support. Feeding the Gulf Coast manages three distribution centers along the Central Gulf Coast: Gulfport, MS; Theodore, AL; and Milton, FL. These centers collaborate with over 800 partner organizations and community groups to distribute more than 30 million pounds of food each year. This effort serves 24 counties through various hunger relief initiatives run by the food bank.

Organizers for The Max reported that this year’s record-breaking event raised enough money to provide over 87,000 meals!
