Mudjacking

As concrete slabs sink they create uneven surfaces which are both unsightly and a tripping hazard. This can happen to driveways, walkways, patios and other concrete slabs.

The traditional solution to this problem used to be mudjacking. This is a technique used to repair and lift concrete slabs that have settled by using a mortar-based mix pumped below the slab to lift it to a level position. The mortar-based mixture is referred to as mud or slurry. A hole is drilled in the concrete slab and the slurry is pumped below the concrete.

While mudjacking offered a temporary fix for concrete settlement, over time, many flaws with this process were uncovered – particularly that the weight of the mixture would eventually cause more slab settlement.

AFS Foundation & Waterproofing Specialists offers a fast, effective, and less invasive approach to concrete leveling with SettleStop Concrete Raising. The SettleStop system involves injecting an expanding polymer foam under the concrete for a durable, long-lasting solution. Why mudjacking is an inferior solution

Mudjacking can be effective for heavy structures, especially when used in conjunction with slab piers. However, it should not be used as a solution to lifting a footing or floor slab that has settled. Most of the time mudjacking will not be able to lift the slab and heavy partition walls sitting on top of it. We highly recommend slab piers be used instead in this situation.

If mudjacking does manage to lift the concrete slab, it is difficult to control as mudjacking lifts walls unevenly. This type of solution is temporary at best. Even with filled voids, the soil below the concrete slab will probably continue to sink over time. You will eventually have to call back a contractor to repeat the process again.

SettleStop Concrete Raising is a much lighter material that expands and lifts concrete slabs through much smaller injection holes. It outclasses old mudjacking techniques in every way, and offers a more permanent solution to your concrete slab settlement needs.
