"EDIT for 2026: The five star review still holds from the previous review below, years later after the original work. On an annual service and inspection, Josh Whitt just did our service. This gentleman is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. He even took the time to explain everything and took some excellent readings and pictures of the work. 100% customer confidence. This is the level of work we expect from someone who does the work on one of our most important things, our home. Josh communicated great from start to finish. Well done from start to finish. We appreciate your service. Initial work review (4 years ago): The AFS team is excellent. We have a pretty large amount of work that needs to be done at our house, to include sump, dehumidifier installation, ,general contractor wood work, and encapsulation. Dustin Loeb did a great job estimating the work, and did not hesitate to come out and take another look at something or answer any questions we had. I cannot say enough about how fantastic the communication is with AFS. From when the work was to begin, to when the crews are going to be there, to any updates or any changes that would be necessary are very clearly communicated in person or by a phone call. Special mention to the AFS crew that has been working at our place this week: Richard Warner and Nick Lee. I was greeted every morning by Richard who told me the plan for the day, and at the end of the day showed me pictures of what they were working on under the house and how things were looking. The crew takes great pride in their work, and pays attention to detail, communicating everything they do. And that's something I appreciate. We still have some general contractor work to do, and then encapsulation after that. I'm looking forward to AFS finishing up and keeping up the excellent work!"

Types of Driveway Damage in Harvest

Common Causes of your Driveway Problems in Harvest

Soil Erosion

Over time, water or wind can erode the soil beneath your driveway, creating empty spaces that lead to sinking or cracking concrete.

Poor Soil Compaction

If the soil under your driveway wasn't compacted properly during installation, it can settle unevenly, causing cracks and dips to form.

Tree Root Growth

Roots from nearby trees may grow under your driveway, pushing against the concrete and causing cracks or lifting as they expand.

Freeze-Thaw Cycles

When water in the soil freezes and thaws repeatedly, it expands and contracts, putting stress on your driveway and leading to cracks or uneven surfaces.

Heavy Loads

Your driveway may crack or settle under the weight of heavy vehicles or equipment, especially if the concrete wasn't designed for such loads.

Drainage Issues

Poor drainage can allow water to pool and seep beneath your driveway, eroding the soil and damaging the concrete over time.

Moisture Changes

When saturated, clay soil expands, and when dry, it contracts. These constant changes in moisture levels weaken the support beneath the concrete.

FAQs

The most cost-effective way to fix a driveway often involves surface leveling and sealing existing cracks. This helps prevent further damage from soil erosion and trip hazards without the expense of a full replacement. However, the ideal method can vary based on the extent of spalling concrete and other conditions affecting driveway longevity. Assessing specific situations is prudent for choosing the most economical solution. Consult a professional to determine the best approach for your driveway's unique needs.

Yes, it's possible to repair your own driveway using store-bought concrete or patch kits for minor issues. These materials can address small cracks and minor surface issues, reducing trip hazards and cosmetic blemishes. However, this DIY method might not solve larger problems like sunken driveways or extensive frost heave damage. For substantial repairs requiring surface leveling, consider seeking professional advice on the right techniques and materials.

Yes, large cracks or missing chunks in a driveway can often be repaired with techniques like resurfacing or concrete lifting. These methods address issues like frost heave and soil erosion, restoring the driveway's integrity and appearance. While DIY solutions may suffice for minor repairs, significant damage typically requires professional intervention to ensure structural soundness. Seek expert evaluation to determine the best repair strategy for extensive damage.

For Harvest driveways, asphalt surfaces offer flexibility in freeze-thaw cycles, while concrete provides durability in heavy use. The choice depends on climate responsiveness and anticipated traffic, with concrete better handling expansive soil effects, while asphalt may offer quicker maintenance solutions. Consider your maintenance preferences and local weather patterns when choosing the material. Consult a local expert for advice tailored to your driveway needs in Harvest.

Resurfacing, lifting, and replacing a driveway differ in scope and application. Resurfacing involves a new layer over existing concrete to address surface leveling and minor spalling concrete. Lifting corrects sunken slabs through soil stabilization, such as foam injection, without entire removal. Replacing requires removing the old material entirely and installing new pavement, typically needed for severe structural damage. Decide based on the severity of driveway issues and expected longevity. For guidance on the best option, consider a professional evaluation.
